AIR China yesterday launched the country's first in-flight Wi-Fi service on an Airbus A330 aircraft flying from Beijing to Chengdu, and the airline plans to provide the service on all its A330 planes this year.

Passengers on board the flight tested the Wi-Fi service, which uses satellite to transmit signal, on their laptops or tablets only at an altitude of 3,000 meters, the airline said, adding that it has five planes equipped with the Wi-Fi service.

China's civil aviation laws do not allow mobile phones to be used during a flight, according to Air China.
