Hong Kong, China, May 24, 2017 /ChinaNewswire.com/ - Molex has joined Mouser Electronics to sponsor the Faraday Future Dragon Racing team for the 2016-17 season of the Formula E all-electric racing series. Molex and Mouser have combined to sponsor a team in each of Formula E’s initial three seasons. Dragon Racing is backed this year by newcomer Faraday Future, a US-based startup technology company focused on the development of intelligent electric vehicles.
The season began Oct. 9, 2016, in Hong Kong and features stops in Marrakesh, Buenos Aires, Mexico City, Monaco, Paris, Berlin, Brussels, New York, and Montreal. The zero-emission, low-decibel powertrains allow Formula E races to take place on the most diverse and challenging street circuits in the world, including cities that have never previously hosted major motorsports events.
The Formula E field is made up of 10 teams, each with two drivers. Driving for the Faraday Future Dragon Racing team this season are Loic Duval and Jerome d’Ambrosio, who both competed the previous two seasons for the Dragon Racing team. d’Ambrosio is a two-time Formula E race winner, and Duval has a pair of podium finishes that helped contribute to Dragon Racing’s runner-up finish in the inaugural Formula E season. Through the first three races of the 2016-17 season, the drivers have combined for three top-eight finishes to place the team seventh in the overall standings. The Number 6 (Duval) and 7 (d’Ambrosio) racecars feature prominent Molex and Mouser branding on their center spines.
“With advanced mobility at the heart of both Formula E and Faraday Future Dragon Racing, we are proud to contribute to the team’s success and demonstrate our commitment to developing innovative products for the automotive industry,” said Mark Rettig, global marketing director, transportation, Molex. “We are excited about the significant progress being made with this revolutionary motorsports venture and are delighted to help toward the goal of advancing electric vehicle technology and achieving sustainable transportation.”
Some examples of Molex automotive solutions include CMC and CMX connectors used in powertrain applications, HSAutoLink interconnect systems and Squib right-angle AK-2 cable assemblies used in wiring harnesses to ensure a fully reliable connection to the interface, and VersaKrimp terminals and splices, which are designed for tight termination under conditions of stress or wire pull, including electric vehicles.
The Formula E series was developed by FIA, the governing body for world motor sports, to demonstrate the potential of sustainable mobility. Through its involvement with Formula E, Molex intends to illustrate its commitment to developing products that help advance the automotive industry.
