SONY Corp will launch a smart watch device in China in October, the first wearable digital device developed by a global technology giant in the domestic market, Shanghai Daily learned yesterday.
Sony's SmartWatch 2 will debut in China after debuting globally in September, earlier than Google Inc's Google Glass and Apple Inc's rumored iWatch.
The SmartWatch 2, an upgraded version of Sony SmartWatch - which is not available on the Chinese mainland - allows users to make and answer calls from their wrist through a link with Android smartphones from Sony and other companies via NFC (near-field communication) connectivity and an application for the watch downloaded from the Android market. The watch features a 1.6-inch color touchscreen, water resistance and can remotely control music playing in smartphones.
