DOMESTIC bankcard spending during the three-day May Day holiday grew 39 percent from the same period a year ago while overseas spending added 33 percent with the rising number of tourists, a report shows today.
A mature payment network has pushed up spending in hot tourist attractions and transportation expenditures also climbed, said China UnionPay, the country's sole bankcard transaction firm.
Bankcard expenditure at ticket offices of major domestic scenic spots climbed 49 percent from a year ago, as the May Day holiday was a traditional peak season for tourism.
Online payment for train tickets during the three-day holiday also climbed 49 percent.
Bankcard transaction through UnionPay's channel climbed more than 60 percent in Italy, Germany and France after the bankcard transaction firm expanded its network in a number of overseas countries and regions.
